Available at any retail or online art store:
Canvas students will need 2 canvases per class 8x10 or 9x12in. Acrylic primed cotton panels or stretched canvas, the panels are less expensive and perfectly fine. Easel (Provided by Art Guild if Needed) Any portable easel that is easy to set up. French Easels are very versatile, but all you need is something that can hold your canvas while you paint. Paint (recommended): get the larger tubes so it will last longer, Get the less expensive student grade for the class. Ultramarine Blue Phthalo Blue Titanium White Alizarin Crimson Ivory Black Cadmium Red Light Burnt Sienna Cad. Yellow & Cad. Lemon The winsor & newton "Winton" oil brands are inexpensive and very good. Don't buy the more expensive ones...yet. |
Palette
A 12x16 piece of light weight wood or plastic. Palette Knife: Italian style for scraping your palette and painting Mineral Spirits: "Gamsol" made by Gamblin- cleans brushes and thins oil Get a medium size jar w/lid(cleaning brushes) Medium: Linseed Oil - increases flow of oils Get a small jar w/lid (for medium) Paper Towels: Something with good absorbency (Viva) Use to clean up, wipe off brushes, erasing, Brushes For each student: •hog bristle brushes: only need: #'s 2, 6, and12 for now- Filbert shaped brushes in each size). •One Mongoose brush flat size 6 ( per student), Get 2 of each, one filbert, one flat. • #4 Round bristle for line and detail Get the ones that say "for oil and acrylic” |
