Bio:
I am a self-taught artist who began drawing and painting at age 9 and continued through my graduate studies. After following a completely different career path for the next 33 years, supporting the U.S. Congress and traveling the world in my work and play, I retired and began taking studio painting and later oil painting classes at the Lorton Arts Center in Virginia, joined the Springfield Art Guild in 2012, the Fairfax Art League in 2013 and the Vienna Arts Society in 2014.
I often paint places I have actually traveled to that have inspired me–so I photograph them and when I return home, paint from my photos in oils. I have always loved the windows and doors of France’s Dordogne and Umbria and Tuscany, Italy. People tell me they are drawn in and tempted to look inside the doors and windows I paint, as I am when I photograph them–that is the effect I am trying to achieve! I also enjoy painting still life and landscapes.
My works have been in many shows and exhibits sponsored by the Vienna Arts Society, Fairfax Art League, Springfield Art Guild, and Lorton Arts Center. My paintings have been juried (selected by a judge to be included from a large pool) into:
I also held three shows at my home studio/gallery in April and October 2014 and May 2015 with several other artists. I teach acrylic painting classes at Northern Virginia Community College’s Lifetime Learning Institute and hold group classes in my home studio.
